My work explores the inauthenticity of photography as a medium. I am fascinated by how photographs are often confused with reality. Playing on that notion, I create worlds that blur the lines between reality and imagination. For my series “Preservation,” I cut out images of threatened animals from found photographs and place them into handmade environments. Once these creatures perish, how will we choose to display their existence? Inspired by the work of Hiroshi Sugimoto and Thomas Demand, I create dioramas and capture these moments in traditional black and white film. I see the parallel of black and white film and these endangered animals: both on the verge of becoming extinct. Through this project, these animals have become immortalized through the medium of photography.
